Talking is an extremely integral part of the healing process. But you cannot expect to spontaneously heal by endlessly rehashing your ideas of the causes of your pain. Nor can you sit and look outside yourself for these causes.

Massaging the pain without understanding the full spectrum of it can sometimes merely be a postponement of the pain that is still active and lurking inside us. The wounds may seem to be gone, but they potentially have just found a safe place to hide until another event or situation occurs that triggers them to resurface. This isn't healing. Eventually you will trip over the carpet enough that you decide it is time to really heal.
